PURPOSE: To provide a method for operating the diagnosis and maintenance of a device in a remote place in which necessary information can be preliminarily provided for a service man. CONSTITUTION: This is a method for automatically tracking the situation of a picture setting device 100 connected with a MODEM 120 and positioned in a customer place for the purpose of planning a service call. Plural diagnostic tests are operated on the picture setting device 100, and when a fault is recognized in at least one of the plural diagnostic tests, data connection 140 between the picture setting device 100 and a computer 130 is set at a service position, the fault discovered by the diagnostic test is reported to the computer 130 at the service position, and the necessity of a service by the computer 130 at the service position is decided in response to this report. |
