PURPOSE:To maintain stable ink discharge quantity even when a recording head and an ink temperature are different and to obtain a high quality level image recording by providing a modulation stage for modulating the drive signal of the head based on the state detected at an ink droplet discharge state detecting stage and the temperature detected at a recording head temperature detecting stage. CONSTITUTION:A method for controlling an ink discharge quantity uses a drive signal having divided pulses. First a table 1 used when it is regarded that an ink temperature coincides with a head temperature and a table 2 used when there is a temperature difference between the ink temperature for self- heating up due to the discharge of a recording head and the head temperature are prepared. Then, whether the head is in the discharge state or a non- discharge state is detected, the table used for the control is switched, and a pulse width control is executed. The timing for switching the table 1 and the table 2 is shown in the drawing. |
