<p>PURPOSE: To optimize data copy and a backup operation by using a multisled method when a library is provided with at least two available recording drives, and using a single sled method when it is provided with only one. CONSTITUTION: When a controller 20 receives a copy or backup request from a host 19, the controller 20 judges whether or not two drives are available. Then, when only one drive is available at the time of starting an operation, a first sled mode is called, and a processing for assigning the large amounts of memories to buffers is started. The controller 20 instructs an access mechanism 18 to take out and load a source cartridge in which data to be copied are present, and they are read by the buffers. On the other hand, when the two drives are available, the controller 20 assigns the memories to the two buffers. The source cartridges is loaded in one drive, and a target cartage is loaded in the other.</p> |
