PURPOSE:To prevent the flooding of ink from an ink tank at the time of the filling with ink, in a process refilling an ink tank integrated type recording head with ink, by discharging the residual ink in the recording head before filling the recording head with ink. CONSTITUTION:A recording head 1 is constituted by integrating an ink jet head element 1B and an ink tank 1C. A residual ink amt. detection function is provided to this recording head 1 and, when the filling with ink is judged to be necessary, a warning is outputted to a user. When an ink filling mode is selected according to the warning by the panel operation of a key, the recording head 1 is capped with a cap member 7 and, subsequently, the residual ink in the ink tank 1 is sucked and discharged by a pump 5. Thereafter, the empty ink tank 1C is separated from the head element 1B and the connection part of the head element is filled with ink from a portable ink bottle. |
