The two tubes (1, 2) are joined at an angle. A plug (3) is welded, soldered or crimped inside the first pipe (1). Alternatively, it can be loosely fitted with a conical taper. The tapped hole (4, 5) accepts a screw thread (16). Tightening the screw (14) causes a tapered plug to expand a surrounding ring with axial slots to act as a clamp. A coupling piece is shaped (12) to conform to the profile of the second tube (2). A bush (13) fits closely in the hole (7) to resist crushing forces. The screw head (15) is rounded and may be partially counter-sunk.
