<p>PURPOSE:To efficiently release the heat generated at discharge to the outside of a battery system by specifying the ranges of the hydrogen equilibrium pres sure in atom number ratio of a hydrogen storage alloy, the operating pressure of a safety valve, and the pneumatic pressure strength of a battery case. CONSTITUTION:A cell 10 is formed of an electrode group 11 formed by laminating a positive electrode plate, a negative electrode plate and a separator, and a battery case containing an electrolyte therein. The battery case is formed of a battery jar 12 and a lid 13 thermally fused to its upper opening part, and a positive electrode terminal 14, a negative electrode terminal 15 and a safety valve 16 are fixed to the lid 13. The negative electrode mainly consists of a hydrogen storage alloy, and the positive electrode mainly consists of a nickel oxide. The hydrogen equilibrium pressure of the hydrogen storage alloy in an atom number ratio H/M of 0.5 to the storage alloy is 0.01-0.1MPa, and the operating pressure of the safety valve 16 is set to 0.2-0.8. Further, the pneumatic pressure strength of the battery case is set to 0.7-2.0Mpa, which is higher than the operating pressure of the safety valve 16 by 0.5Mpa or more. Thus, the battery internal pressure can be properly held by the safety valve 16.</p> |
