PURPOSE:To provide a display element capable of suppressing the deterioration of display quality due to reflection of external light on a panel face with an inexpensive structure is suppressed. CONSTITUTION:This element is constituted so that an antireflection film 11 is formed on the surface of an upper polarizing plate 9a disposed on the observer's side and the transmissivity of the upper polarizing plate 9a is made lower than that of a lower polarizing plate 9b or that of the upper substrate 7a is made low. By this method, light from a light-shielding layer 6 being the main factor of the reflection of external light is passed twice through the upper polarizing plate 9a or the upper substrate 7a having low transmissivity so that the intensity of the reflected light is drastically decreased. The intrinsic light beam from the light source 10 is passes once through the upper polarizing plate 9a or the upper substrate 7a having low transmissivity, so that the decrease of the brightness for a display element can be suppressed. |
