The system consists of a launch tube (10) contg. the projectile (12) and its propulsive charge (14), which is associated with a pressure limiter (18), designed to compress when the charge is detonated. The pressure limiter can be made from a friable material such as: (a) a plastic foam; (b) a metal or plastic honeycomb structure, between two skins of laminated carbon or glass fibres and epoxy resin; and (c) hollow metal balls or metal tubes, esp. of Al, which buckle on compression. The propulsive charge (14) is associated with a moving breech, consisting of a charge or an ejectable and dispersible counterweight (16), with the compression limiter (18) located between it and the propulsive charge.
