HEATER FOR HEATING MULTIPLE OPTICAL FIBER, HEATER AND HEATING FURNACE

PURPOSE:To make it possible to heat a multiple optical fiber at and with a desired temp. and temp. distribution. CONSTITUTION:This heater is designed to heat the fiber array exposed at the end of a ribbon-shaped multiple optical fiber cable in order to expand the core regions of the optical fibers by diffusing the dopant of the core regions into the clad regions. The heater described above has electrode parts 1a which exists at both ends and an exothermic part 6 which has the sectional area smaller than the sectional area of the electrode part, has the higher current density than the electrode part and is formed of the same material as the material of the electrode parts as an integral structure between these two electrode parts. The heater is provided with an insertion hole 7 for insertion of the fiber array.
