PURPOSE:To widen the combination and the selection range of peripheral devices by allowing the control part of a main body to control plural peripheral devices based on a system constituted of the respective functions and the connecting positions of plural peripheral devices. CONSTITUTION:An engine driver 1 is the control part of a copying machine main body, and the peripheral device 2(2a, 2b and 2c) is connected to the driver 1 through a serial communication line. System constitution information is provided by three bytes, that is, 3X3 bytes for one peripheral device 2. The device type (paper feeding device or paper ejecting device) and the connecting position of the peripheral device 2 is set at the 1st byte, system constitution such as the number of trays of the peripheral device 2 is set at the 2nd byte and the paper mounting capacity of the peripheral device 2 is set at the 3rd byte. The driver 1 selects a paper feeding path and a paper ejecting path at the time of printing based on the system constitution information. Since the peripheral device is connected to the main body without previously specifying the connecting position of the peripheral device, the combination and the selection range of the peripheral devices are widened. |
