PURPOSE:To provide an image recording and/or reproducing device which are capable of presenting the image information in accordance with the purpose of an index image display. CONSTITUTION:By a designation part 1, image areas 2a and 2b to be index images are designated from recorded images 2. The image area information showing the image areas 2a and 2b designated by this designation part 1 is added to the image file of the recorded image 2 corresponded to a storage part 4 by a storage control part 3 and is stored. At the time of reproducing the recorded image 2, a display control part 5 displays the images of the corresponded areas 2a and 2b in the recorded image 2 as index images on a screen 6 based on the image area information stored in the storage part 4.
