PURPOSE:To surely automatically retreat developing devices from an image carrier without requiring a special operation at the time of pulling out the image carrier. CONSTITUTION:This image forming device provided with the image carrier 14 capable of being loaded/unloaded in/from a device main body in the front, the developing devices 17a and 17b arranged so that they can be in contact/ uncontact with the image carrier 14 to obtain developing and nondeveloping states and contact/uncontact driving mechanisms 23a and 23b moving the developing devices 17a and 17b to obtain the developing or nondeveloping state is constituted to provide a driving mechanism for retreating moving the developing device in the developing state to the nondeveloping state linked with an operation accompanied with the loading/unloading operations of the image carrier 14 and a means actuated to retreat only with the first operation, even if the operation for actuating the driving mechanism for retreating is consecutively repeated.
