MOTION COMPENSATION ARITHMETIC UNIT

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a register to shift picture elements in a retrieved area 2 in a PE. CONSTITUTION:Picture elements in a retrieved area 2 are collected in a FIFO 14, from which picture elements by one line are broadcast to a PE 15 corresponding to each lien of a template by one line and given at once thereto. Each PE 15 adds a difference absolute sum of picture elements of a retrieval area by one line received by a concerned PE and template picture elements and a difference absolute sum obtained from a 1st stage PE to a next adjacent stage PE. A minimum value of the difference absolute sum obtained by a final stage PE is detected and an area corresponding to the minimum value is used for an area just before the template.
