<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the obstacle detection performance from deteriorating by lighting a head light automatically through the use of shutter speed change of a CCD camera. CONSTITUTION:An image data picked up through a CCD camera 21 is inputted to an image recognition unit 30 and an obstacle is detected based on the luminance gradation thereof. Based on the luminance gradation of a sample image data, shutter speed of the CCD camera 21 is regulated depending on the quantity of light with reference to a shutter speed change map. The obstacle detector comprises means 35 for determining the brightness in front of a vehicle based on a slautter speed and a luminance gradation signal received from an image recognition unit 30 to produce a lighting or unlighting signal, and a unit 40 for lighting or unlighting a head light 42 automatically based on the lighting or unlighting signal.</p> |
