PURPOSE:To improve the precision of kind discrimination when many kinds of bill, etc., are handled and the throughput of the discrimination by decreasing the kinds of paper sheets to be selected and discriminating the kind of paper sheet which is left to the end as an unknown kind of paper sheet read by a pattern read means. CONSTITUTION:In (a), bills A and B are selected out of six kinds of bills, and which of areas of a separate hyperplane P1 dividing a space so that image data distributions belong to the mutually different areas image data X is found, thereby excluding the bill A from an object of selection. In (b), bills B and C are selected out of five kinds, of bill except the bill A and similar operation is performed for a separate hyperplane P2 to exclude the bill C from the objects of selection. Similarly, previously set separate hyperplanes P3-P5 are used to exclude the bills B, E, and F from the object of selection. Thus, the reduction is performed sequentially and the bill D which is left to the end is discriminated as the money kind of the image data X. |
