The steering wheel is assembled on a hub fixed to the steering shaft (3) which is supported by a tubular steering column (4). The control unit for electrical accessories which is located inside the steering shaft is prevented from rotating relative to the steering wheel and is supplied by a cable (11). The control unit is fixed rigidly on a tubular support (10) axially located on the steering shaft and is passed through by the supply cable. The tubular support carries a lug (14) which immobilises rotation and adjusts translation of the support. The adjusting and immobilising lug slides in a runner (15) carried by a fixed guide (16). The steering shaft and the tubular support operate with a roller bearing (21) mounted between the control unit support and an internal casing (20) fixed to the steering shaft.
