PURPOSE:To realize a highly efficient inexpensive optical fiber amplifier having reduced number of components. CONSTITUTION:An Er doped fiber (c) is connected, at the opposite ends thereof, with first and second optical multiplexer/demultiplexers (a), (b) to constitute a ring. The first optical multiplexer/demultiplexer (a) receives lights having substantially same wavelength from excitation light sources WP1, WP2 and used for forward/reverse excitation whereas the second optical multiplexer/ demultiplexer (b) is used for inputting/outputting a signal. |
