LIQUID CRYSTAL ELECTRO-OPTIC DEVICE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To prevent orientation regulating force from hindering switching of liquid crystal molecules by providing the inner side surfaces of at least one substrate of a pair of substrates with films consisting of a resin material or plural projecting parts. CONSTITUTION:A mixture composed of the liquid crystal material 107 and the uncured resin added with a reaction initiator is heated until an isotropic phase is attained. This mixture is then injected between one set of the substrates 101, 102 which are determined in the inter-substrate spacing by spacers 108 and have electrodes 103, 104 and oriented films 105. The mixture is then slowly cooled to obtain the liquid crystal material 107 uniaxially oriented by the oriented films 105. The uncured resin incorporated into the liquid crystal material 107 is thereafter cured to form the resin films 106 regulating the orientation regulating force of the oriented films 105 on these oriented films. A UV curing type resin is preferably used as, for example, the uncured resin of the material of the resin films 106. The concn. of the resin material in the mixture composed of the resin material and the liquid crystal material 107 is adequately about <=20%.
