Plastics dowel used as screw insert for e.g. furniture

The dowel has a number of grooves in its circumference. They leave ridges (16) with downward sloping faces which leave sharp edges and which facilitate entry into the mounting hole. The dowel incorporates an integral washer (22) which is attached to the dowel by an edge (24) which will be sheared off when pressure is exerted on the washer in the direction of the arrow (3) when a fixture is attached to the dowel with a screw into the bore (12).
