A vehicle tailgate has a pivotally movable window 2 for closing an upper opening part, and a separately pivotable flap 3 for closing a lower opening part. The window is transferred automatically into a partially open position via a gas strut 17 when the flap is unlocked. If the window is closed while the flap is open it does not stay closed unless the flap is closed first. The flap may be hinged horizontally or vertically. <IMAGE>
