Method for the separation (S) of titanium and niobium by contacting and subjecting to liquid-liquid extraction an aqueous phase (1) to be treated, containing said compounds and sulphuric acid, with an organic phase (2) comprising one or more compounds of general formula (I): Rm(R'O)nP=O wherein R is a linear or branched alkyl group, R' is an optionally substituted aryl group or R group, R and/or R' optionally contain one or more heteroatoms such as, for example, an oxygen atom, a halogen and/or a phosphorous atom, m being an integer from 1-3 and n being equal to 0, 1 or 2, wherein m + n is equal to 3, all the substituents R and R' containing a total of at least 12 carbon atoms. The method is characterized in that the ratio O:A of the volume flow rate of the organic phase (2) to that of the aqueous phase (1) satisfies the following inequation: 1,8-0,29 C < O/A < 6,4-0,95 C in which C is the equilibrium concentration of sulfuric acid in the aqueous phase during the liquid-liquid extraction, thereby resulting in an aqueous phase (3) comprising purified titanium and an organic phase (4) comprising extracted niobium.
|
