The regulation system determines the distribution of the applied braking force between the trailer and the tractor vehicle, in dependence on the weight of the trailer, determined by evaluating the vehicle velocity, the braking and the gear ratio at 3 different time points. The velocity, the braking and the gear ratio obtained at each time point are used to calculate the inclination angle of the coupling between the tractor and the trailer, with subsequent calculation of the overall mass of the tractor/tailer combination, using the known drive force. The braking valves are controlled in dependence on the calculated overall mass at each time points.
