LOCK ASSEMBLY WITH LOCKING BAR

A lock assembly includes a cylindrical key plug (12) with a key slot (16) and a shell (10) surrounding the plug (12). A first locking mechanism is provided by split top pins (20) projecting across the shear surface interfacebetween the plug (12) and the shell (10) and positioned to align the split in the split top pins (20) with the shear surface by notches of varying height located along the top of a key (14). Second and third locking mechanisms are located in the plug (12) and include a locking bar (32) that projects into alocking groove (36) in the shell (10) in the locked position. The locking bar (32) has an offset ridge (44) along an upper edge that prevents the locking bar (32) from moving to an unlocked position unless side pins (46) having recesses (48) adapted to receive the ridge (44) are positioned by depressions (54) along the side of the key (14) to align the recesses (48) with the ridge (44). The lock can be rekeyed by reversing the locking bar (32).
