The vehicle heating and air conditioning unit incorporates a cooling chamber (20). The output (22) of this chamber is controlled by a first control element (46,48), so that it can be selectively connected to the input (24) of the heating chamber (26) or to the first input of the distribution chamber. The heating chamber has a first output (36) supplying the defrosting apertures of the windscreen, and a second element and connecting to the second input (44) of the distribution chamber. The control element may have a flap able to be turned between two positions.
