PURPOSE:To obviate deterioration and variation of magnetic head characteristics due to internal strain by providing a nonmagnetic substrate with a lacked arc- shaped plane part or notched part in a specific direction. CONSTITUTION:A die plate 10 having a plurality of circular die holes 11, which are arranged on a circle concentric with the die plate 10 and having inside walls 12, of which laced arc-shaped planes are orthogonal to the radial direction from the central point of the die plate 10, is used. The cooling rate is uniform in the circumferential direction within the substrate if the resulted nonmagnetic substrate is provided with the laced arc-shaped plane parts in a specific direction and is sintered under pressure and, therefore, the internal strain is less generated and consequently, the magneto-resistance type magnetic poles are formed in the direction parallel with the lacked arc-shaped plane parts of the nonmagnetic substrate and the thin-film magnetic head is formed by cutting off the product. The deterioration and variation in the magnetic head characteristics due to the internal strain of the nonmagnetic substrate are eliminated. |
