In a golf ball having dimples (1) and lands (2,3) formed on the surface thereof, dimples (1) are arranged so that there are provided less than 40 lands (2a,2b,2c) containing a rectangle (10) having a short side greater than 0.4mm and an area greater than 0.8mm<2> and not including a part of the dimple (1) or the whole thereof. A land (2c) having the greatest area of all lands (2,3) is so small that a dimple having an area greater than the average area of all dimples cannot be formed therein.
