Cylinder units attached to the door/window panel extend to open the panel to the desired extent, and contract to close the panel. The rods (8) of the cylinder units (6) are pivotally attached to the window frame (5), whilst the cylinders themselves (7) are slidably clamped in swivel brackets (10) on the panel (1). The cylinders may be pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically operated.
