A machine is claimed for electrochemical machining incorporating a machining tool (13 to 17) in front of one face of a work piece. It includes a thickness sensor (18), for example by ultrasonics, and a loop incorporating a thickness measuring device (22) and a relay (24) that swings around until the thickness desired is achieved and then cuts the electrical feed to the machine (10). The method of using this machine for electrochemical machining is also claimed.
