Appts. for conveying bottles from a glass-forming machine to a lehr includes an endless flexible link belt conveyor that is driven past a line of forming machines by a first drive system that engages the ends of pins projecting horizontally from the conveyor whereby bottles are transported in a single line. A second drive system then takes over and drives the conveyor round a horizontally curved path and then across the loading end of the lehr. The second system drives the conveyor at a lower speed than the first, whereby the conveyor links, and consequently the bottles, are closed up. The first drive system comprises a pair of endless chains carrying pivotally mounted dogs that engage the projecting pins on the conveyor, and a cam device which hold the dogs in engagement over a particular length of wovel, and then allows them to pivot out of contact. The second system is an endless chain extending below the conveyor and carrying magnets which engage the conveyor links.
