The holder assembly of the plasma torch has the cathode carried in a cathode holder (2), which has a female conical passage to house the cathode (1). The cathode is a male conical element, with the point facing out from the cathode assembly. The conical housing and electrode form an angle of round twenty degrees. The cathode is positioned inside the cathode holder by a screw (9) that locks the male part firmly in place and ensures accurate centring. The end of the cathode projects beyond the cathode holder, and enters a convergent passage formed in the anode (5). The anode and cathode holder are electrically insulated from each other.
