The front wheel steering assembly has limiters comprising two complementary stop assemblies which limit the rack travel. These are arranged on a steering rack (12) connected to the front wheels so that the steering angle limit is a function of the linear travel of the rack. Each assembly comprises a pair of opposite movable stops (54,84) connected to the rack and mating with a pair of opposite fixed stops (18,50) connected to the vehicle body. The two stop assemblies, short and long, prescribe different rack travel lengths. A pair of stops of the short assembly can move to a retracted position in which the long assembly is operational and the wheel steering angle is normal. In their active position in which the short assembly is operational, the wheel angle limit is reduced.
