BOUNDARY LAYER CONTROL DEVICE

The proposed boundary layer control device is designed in the form of a cavity (1) on the surface of the object in question, within which a central body (4) is arranged in such a way that an annular channel (5, 6) is formed between the cavity walls and the body. The central body is hollow and connected to a vacuum source. Air intakes (12) are provided on the surface of the central body, while the interior of the annular channel (6) is shaped as a converger-diffuser flow-through duct. The cavity is provided with means for fixing the position of the separation line and locating the position of the connection line of the boundary layer. Those means can take the form of an acute forward (7) and blunted rear (8) edge, or of nozzles (15) on the forward edge of the cavity for tangential blowing into the outer section of the annular channel, with suction channels on the rear edge of the cavity (16). When in operation, the device reduces the power consumption of the suction system and improves the aerodynamic characteristics of the object.
