The novel N-alkylcyclohexyl maleimides are of formula (I), specifically the N(3,3,5-tri-Me- cyclohexyl)maleimide of formula (IA). Also claimed are: (i) prepn. of (I) by condensation of a maleic acid semi-amide of formula (II) at 0-100 deg C in presence of a dehydrating agent and opt. also an inert solvent; (ii) (co)polymers of (I); and (iii) the prepn. of copolymers by conventional radical-initiated polymerisation. R = 1-12C alkyl (specified as 1-6C alkyl in (II)); and n = 1-6.
