Composite handle kitchen knife

The knife blade (1) has a hilt (2) behind which is a handle tang (3) to which is fixed either a side handle pad (4). The pad is fitted initially by a single rivet (18) which allows the pad to pivot. The aft (6) surface of the hilt has a recess (9) set into the material and the pad has a groove (5) into which the tang fits upto a stop face (11). At the forward face of each pad side is a forward facing projection (8) which has a shape the same as the tang recess. As the handle pivots upward into position the projection locks into the recesses forming a solid lock with a flush finish between the tang, hilt and handle.
