A press for dewatering a paper web has two press-rollers (14, 16) that form a pressing slit (12). The first press-roller (14) is fixed in the axial direction at least at one end and is held with its journals (53) on first bearing blocks (19). The second press-roller (16) is also held with its journals (55) on second bearing blocks (21a). The second bearing blocks (21a) may be clamped in pairs by means of flexible elastic tensioning means (26) in relation to the first bearing blocks (19). The tensioning means (26) allow relative movement of the press-rollers (14, 16) in the axial direction. The second bearing blocks (21a) are fixed in position in relation to the first bearing blocks (19) in order to avoid excessive bending stresses of the tensioning means (26). For that purpose, the rotary bearings (25a) of the second press-roller (16) are designed not to tilt or additional support bearings (27a) are provided.
