The invention relates to a method for mechanically treating bamboo canes to prevent the bamboo canes from cracking. For this, it is necessary to provide a method in which bamboo canes also having two or more transverse walls can be treated such that cracking of the bamboo cane after its processing is avoided. It is therefore proposed that the bamboo cane is cut open in the longitudinal direction over the entire length before the drying starts, is dried down to the desired residual moisture and, after the drying, the longitudinal gap produced is closed over the entire length.
