This invention relates to a method for monitoring the condition of an interconnection network, in which method monitoring cycles are carried out for checking the condition of the interconnecion interfaces (L1, L2, L3). In order to achieve a method requiring as small resources as possible, a counter (C1, C2, C3) specific to each interconnection interface is provided, the counter (C1, C2, C3) is preset to a predetermined initial value (LA), the value of the counter (C1, C2, C3) is changed on the basis of the result of a monitoring cycle, as well as at predetermined intervals depending on the value indicated by the counter, and an alarm is given when the counter (C1, C2, C3) reaches or exceeds a predetermined threshold value (LH).
