The wiper assembly consists of a main support bar (12) with fixings for attaching it to the vehicle body and a drive (18) for the wiper blade arms. The bar has a main output shaft (32) at one end and a mounting at the other end for a second bar and output shaft for a second wiper arm or bearing. The main output shaft is connected to a rod mechanism (66) which returns the movements to the second output shaft. The second bar has fixings for attaching to the vehicle body work independently of the first bar so that it can be fixed in an offset position to one side of the connection between the first and second bars. The drive is in the form of a motor and reduction gear unit which is connected to the first output shaft by a lever (22).
