Asbestos and/or asbestos contg. material is treated by reducing the particle size of the material to less than 50 mm, blending the material with fuel with particle size less than 50 mm and feeding the mixture into the ring shaped shaft (3) of the primary chamber (2) of a surface melting furnace (1). The temp. in the primary chamber (2) is set at 1250-1600 degrees C. The fused material and flue gases pass through the central outlet (4) and the fused material is fed through the secondary chamber (5), granulated and discharged from a slag removal channel (6). A further claim is for such a process and apparatus in which solid fuel with a particle size less than 1 mm or paste, liquid or gaseous fuel is fed into the melting oven via burner (7). Also claimed is a process for treating residues from waste incineration plant with active carbon or coal. Also claimed is a process for treating low temp. carbonisation coke and/or pyrolysis dust by first proceeding as above. |
