A method of manufacturing a cylindrical gas generator filter (10) comprising re-sizing and re-shaping an as-wrapped filter with a rotary swaging machine including one or more pairs of opposed dies. The filter (10) may be formed by a multiple layer or stack-up wrapping method and may include an inner core (12) of plural wraps of metal woven cloth, expanded metal or mesh woven cloth. Three wraps of different filter material such as metal mesh woven cloth (14, 18) and filter paper (16) may be wound outwardly of the inner core.
