Drive unit controls clutch to disengage motor driven cooling fan in favour of another accessory

An electric motor 1 drives either a cooling fan 7 or another auxiliary, e.g. power assisted steering 13, via a pump 10, depending on the engagement of a clutch 8,9 controlled by a control circuit. The circuit gives precedence to driving the auxiliary, i.e. the power-assisted steering 13, and disengages the clutch, and therefore the drive for the cooling fan 7, when the power assisted steering requires power.
