Process for the manufacture of a catalytic converter consisting of a metal casing and a catalyst brick assembly where the casing is hydraulically deformed to a cross section slightly larger than that of the catalyst. A particular feature is the provision of two diametrically opposed convex ridges (9) which permit the compression of the casing (8) around the catalyst after assembly. Pref. two V-shaped ridges (9) are formed at the ends of a centreline so that the open ends of the V face each other.
