A photographic element has a support carrying a photographic Ag halide emulsion layer associated with a high dye-yield coupler of formula COUP-(T)m-L-DYE (I), where COUP is the parent gp. of the coupler, reacts at the coupling position with oxidised developer to form a first dye; T is a timing gp., m = 1 or 2, L is -OC(O)-, -OC(S)-, -SC(O)-, -SC(S)-, or -OC(=NSO2R)-; R is an opt. substd. alkyl or aryl; and DYE is a second dye or the precursor. At least one T gp. contains a substit. of formula -(LINK)p-A-B-(C-D)n (II), where LINK is an alkylene; p = 0 or 1; A is -NHCO-, N(R1)C(O)N(R1)-, -CONH-, -NR1SO2-, -SO2NR1- or -OPO2-; R1 is H or opt. substd. alkyl; B is an opt. substd. carbocyclic or heterocyclic gp.; C is a solublising gp. selected from -NHSO2- and -SO2NH-; D is an opt. substd. alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic gp.; and n = 1-3. Also claimed are (A) a photographic emulsion associated with the coupler (I), and (B) forming a colour image by exposing and developing the element.
