The catalyst bed is piled with catalyst medium, around which the hot process gas flows. This contains hydrocarbons mixed with steam, which may be heated by a hot gas, esp. helium. The catalyst is circulated by gravity, between the inlet (11) and the outlet duct (15), under throughput control (12,16). The exit duct (15) discharges into a catalyst reactivator, from where the catalyst is returned to the inlet (11). The catalyst elements (4) are spherical, with grooves to increase the reactive surface area, and the bed is penetrated by meandering or helical hot gas pipes (6). |
