<p>PURPOSE: To provide a fuel supply system having the means for preventing the overflow of a fuel to a main tank in a fuel reservoir and for increasing the efficiency of a main fuel pump. CONSTITUTION: The fuel tank in an automobile has a reservoir 40 in which two-stage electrically operated pump 62 is arranged. A first stage is a jet pump for extracting a fuel from a main tank and supplying it to the reservoir. A second stage is a rotary pump for extracting the fuel from the reservoir 40 and supplying it to a vehicular engine. The reservoir has an overflow restriction means which allows air to vent while the reservoir is filling but which restricts fuel flow when the reservoir is full. Thereby, the pressure is created in the reservoir 40 and a back pressure is generated. Thus, as the flow from a jet pump is shut down and the pressure on the fuel inlet of the main pump is increased, the efficiency of the main fuel pump is increased.</p> |
