PURPOSE:To improve access speed by obtaining the linear velocity of a disk more accurately with respect to the method for measuring the linear velocity of the disk in a disk device, wherein the rotation of the disk is controlled at the constant linear velocity. CONSTITUTION:The rotation of a disk is controlled at the specified linear velocity based on the information reproduced from the disk with a pickup. At first, the pickup is aligned at the specified radial position of the disk. Under the state, wherein the pickup is aligned at the specified radial direction and the rotation of the disk is controlled at the specified linear velocity, the time for one rotation of the disk is measured. Then, the linear velocity of the disk is computed based on the measured time of one rotation of the disk and the specified radius.
