PURPOSE:To obtain an aluminum sintered compact having an excellent mechanical strength characteristic and high thermal conductivity by incorporating a precipitate consisting of at least either of tantalum carbide and niobium carbide at a specific ratio into this sintered compact. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum nitride powder contg. l to 10wt.% at least one kind of compds. (e.g.: Y2O3) selected from periodic table groups IIa and IIIa is prepd. as a sintering assistant. Further, at least either of tantalum oxide and niobium oxide is added at 0.01 to 1mol% and a carbon compd. (e.g.: polyvinyl alcohol), such as org. additive, are added to this aluminum nitride powder. The resultant raw material mixture is molded and the molding is adjusted by degreasing in such a manner that the carbon content after the degreasing attains 0.1 to 1.5%. The degreased molding is then sintered in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. As a result, the aluminum nitride sintered compact contg. 0.01 to 1mol% precipitate consisting of at least either of the tantalum carbide and niobium carbide is obtd. |
