LUBRICANT FOR HOT ROLLING OF STAINLESS STEEL HAVING HIGH CHROMIUM CONTENT

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject lubricant capable of preventing seizure of a roll and providing a high-quality product free from surface flaw in hot rolling of stainless steel having high Cr content by dispersing fine powder of iron hydroxide into a viscous water solution and specifying the apparent viscosity of the resultant lubricant. CONSTITUTION:This lubricant is continuously fed, while at least carrying out rolling, to the surface of a rolling roll contacting with a material to be rolled when a stainless steel having high Cr content is subjected to hot rolling and obtained by dispersing 10-40wt.% of powder of iron hydroxide [preferably iron oxyhydroxide of the formula, FeO(OH)] having 0.1-1mum average particle diameter into a viscous water solution obtained by dissolving a thickener consisting of a water soluble high polymer (preferably a water-soluble crosslinked acrylic acid polymer) in water and has 1000-50000cp apparent viscosity. Large effect is preferably obtained by applying the lubricant to hot rolling of stainless steel having a high Cr content of >=20% Cr equivalent defined by the formula {the brackets represent the content (wt.%) of the each component element in the steel}.
