PURPOSE:To accurately perform the sampling of a color shift detecting pattern without increasing the constitution and cost of hardware by determining whether the shading correction of a line light emitting element is performed corresponding to the formation direction of a color shift pattern. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of color shift patterns 02a, 02b are formed on a rotationally driven endless carrier 01 at a predetermined interval and sampled by a line light emitting element 03 to control the shift of a plurality of the toner images different in color formed on the transfer material supported on the endless carrier 01. When the color shift pattern formed along the direction almost crossing the advance direction of the endless carrier 01 at a right angle is sampled, the shading correction of the line light emitting element 03 is not performed but, when the color shift pattern formed along the advance direction of the endless carrier 01 is sampled, shading correction is executed by a shading correction means 04 of the output of the line light emitting element 03. |
