PURPOSE: To obtain a color luster pigment exhibiting increased gloss as well as high color strength and transparency by incorporating a glassy material- forming agent into a coating layer of a metal oxide. CONSTITUTION: This color luster pigment comprises a substrate coated with one or more metal oxides or a mixture of metal oxides and the layer of the metal oxide is doped or after-coated with borosilicates. The ratio of borosilicates to total pigment is 0.05-5 wt.%. The method for producing the pigment includes a method for (A) successively or simultaneously adding a metal salt solution and a boron-oxide compound to aqueous solution of the substrate in the presence of a water-soluble alkali (earth) metal salt under conditions leading to deposition of a metal oxide (mixture) and borosilicate salt and carrying out after-coating by SiO2 or (B) simultaneously and separately adding a solution comprising a metal salt and water-soluble boron-oxygen compound and a water-soluble silicon compound to the aqueous solution of the substrate and then, separating the pigment, washing the pigment with water, drying the pigment and calcining the pigment at >500 deg.C. |
